Dear readers, my apologies for leaving this blog unattended for some time. I've been preoccupied with my other web projects, one of which might interest you being Tinkoi Network. It is a property listing site for available properties in Malaysia.
Anyway, I'm going to post something else today. We'll explore a little more what happens behind the scenes of these posts. First off what triggered this post was when I found dozens of irrelevant comments (mostly spam) when I logged in to Blogger. So I find myself needing to clear all these comments going through each of them because I have read somewhere in Google's guidelines that it makes for a better user experience. Personally, I really wouldn't mind but I think it has something to do with all these hyperlinks created in the spam comments which is not a good thing for user experience and my overall blog.

There were quite a lot of deleting needed but as the post title suggests it is a minor hassle. It's a lesson for me to make myself available here once a month next time :P
This section onwards are more for new realtor or anyone planning to join Malaysia real estate industry.
I'm by profession working in the Malaysian real estate industry Since 2009 if you have not gone through my profile. Since we are already on a topic that is suggestive of what being a realtor needs to do, I guess I should add a little more for any reader here who is new in the real estate industry or has a plan to join the industry.
Anyone here think this is all realtor do? |
I'll try to keep it simple on what you need to expect as newcomer of the real estate industry. Each topic in itself is a deep rabbit hole. (As a disclaimer below are not true for those mostly involved in developers projects sales, nothing wrong with that path but that is more towards product direct selling than actual realtor work which is the discussion)
What to expect if I want to be a realtor in Malaysia?
- Be prepared to have zero income from real estate for at least the first 6 months when you start. (Some agency may pay a monthly wage but I would consider it worthwhile if you are determined to be established in the industry)
- It will probably take another 1 year for you to begin seeing results and getting confident of the path towards making a living in real estate industry.
- If you have no prior education or experience in the field expect to read a lot & learn about real estate related topics, property laws, mortgage financing, economy, construction, locality research and even buyers & sellers market. Information of who to sell to is just as important as what you are selling.
- I guess its goes without saying that the work involves moving around town and meeting many people. This could be a plus to some and negative to others but know that it is a key requirement to up your game in the industry.
- Although the general public may think that work time flexibility is known benefit of this work it will only be true if you put proper time management practice and discipline in place
- This last one is more of my hope for new generation Malaysian realtor. Realtor is a professional work hence it is only right to work with prioritization of professionalism over profit or financial gain. I know that this may not be the case for some in the market treating more like a business and prioritize profit over professional ethics. Believe me there will be time where the two will clash. Be aware of its presence do not make up bias justifications and do the right thing even thou it may not be a profitable choice. The profession will reward you enough that you can afford to be the better person. Our work involves large sums of money transaction & quite likely major decision with major impact to other people's lives. Hence, it would be wise to put that in retrospect when we work.
